The initial stage of the infectious disease prolonged with no symptoms. HIV is transmitted primarily by unprotected sex, contaminated blood transfusions, hypodermic needles, from mother to child during pregnancy and breastfeeding. This further increases the risk of many common infections like tuberculosis and as well as other opportunistic infections. The later stage of this infection is known as AIDS.
